Between Stone and Sky

By Whitney Brown

Between Stone and Sky

After meeting a Welsh waller at a folk festival in DC, Brown agrees to go and stay with him in Wales and learn the craft of dry stone walling. A young American woman isn't your stereotypical dry stone waller. This is a beautiful memoir on deciding what you want out of life and then deciding how to get it. Brown creates a gorgeous sense of place. Between Stone and Sky is a cosy book, full of mountains and fields and sheep. It's lovely to read about the Welsh landscape through the eyes of someone from further afield. Brown doesn't shy away from speaking about the sacrifices of her path, and captures all the beauty of it. I found it something of a page-turner, which is quite a feat for a memoir.
